Benny and the Goons

remember crack-n-peel stickers? fuck, I am sure every business owner hated those fucking things... I loved them, this one is for one of my favorites, Benny and the Goons! I heard that Benny moved to Arizona and was ripping shit up out there, I hope that is true! I always liked him!

OFF THE RECORD R.I.P.

Well, I was bummed to read on the One Sided War blog that Off The Record closed it's doors, sure besides getting wasted at Dan Padilla's last show I haven't been to San Diego for a couple of years... Previous to my couple year absence from San Diego I would hit up Off The Record about twice a year starting in 1990... over the years I picked up many great pieces of music that would help shape my taste in audio terror, Off The Record was the first place I bought a Fugazi, Hickey, Dag Nasty, & Moss Icon album... I also picked up god awful cassettes there such as the Mentor's Rock Bible, sure I just said that album was awful but over the years my friends & I would laugh about songs like Constantly Jackin, and lyrics such as, "living on welfare, I don't care what the people think of me, I'm living on welfare and I don't care, can't you see?" that 7 dollar purchase gave me hours of entertainment and things to talk about, for fuck sake I didn't know what a "strawberry" was until I heard it mentioned on the track My Daughter Is A Strawberry.... One of my favorite Accused albums is More Fun Than An Open Casket Funeral, and over the years I could never seem to stumble across a copy, until one day I came walking in & saw a copy in the used bin... I almost flipped my daughter's stroller over in all the excitement. ha, I should have! My daughter is now 20  and has her own awful taste in music... if memory serves me correct I think I may have been to 3 different Off The Record locations over the years, not sure if that is correct but I am a raging alcoholic, so shoot me! I will miss Off The Record but will always be thankful for the great music I was exposed to!
this business card has graced many walls in many of the homes I have jammed music in... which is a reminder I hate moving but have seemed to have done a lot of it over the years...

here's where I first read the bad news

The Latest Flames - I Try! 7"

ADZ, Subjective Right, Gettin Off, the Cheaters @ the OZONE

never understood why the Adolescents went by ADZ, I assume it's because some people left or some shit, but having no original members has never stopped a punk band from doing anything... "No Booze Inside"? fuck that shit!

the Seriouslys CD

I think this may have been a Punk Rock Bowling only CD... I miss the Seriouslys, I enjoyed them every time I saw them play, or at least I think I did, I was fucking wasted every single time I saw them play, but that is the story with every band...

You can follow them here

Professor Punn - Nine Songs For Just Five Bucks CD

there was a time when it seemed like Professor Punn was opening up for every big band roaring through Las Vegas, I wonder what these folks went on doing, let me know if you know.

if one ever pops up you can snag one here, not a lot about them on line which is a shame since for a short time they seemed to be a big part of the music scene...

or pick up a coppy of Welcome to Las Vegas It's All Down Hill to hear their track Dumpsite

Child Support - Bleach Part DEMOS

here's a scan of a newer Las Vegas ska/punk band's CD, I figured it's easier to scan it now than wait ten years to do so... check out Child Support when you get the chance... I'll eventually post a review on 138.org, thanks to Power Pop Joey @ Record City for the disc!

Substance D, Skratch My Ass Heart Attack, 2nd Heirs Rein @ the Hobnob

possibly the crudest flyer I have ever received, nudity, part of the flyer is burnt, there's writing on the back and it may have been used as toilet paper at some point in time

Underground Records...

...I founded out about many punk rock shows, picked up fanzines, & scored so much amazing music at the Underground Records!

This ain't no phoney movie, it's...

the Fixtures, Das Klown, Drain Bramaged, Chuck @ the Foothill

Damnation, the Vermin, the Real Creeps @ the Wet Spot

I am constantly amazed how little effort was put into flyers in this era of punk rock!

Here is a a Demo of Four Quarts Drunk, you might know them because that cutie pie Little Brandon was in that band... Bethany once traded a Puckered Starfish demo tape for this, what an asshole!

I love the Leaving Trains!

Sausage Hostages @ Club Rock

MU330, The Lawrence Arms, Big D & the Kids Table @ the Junkyard

7 Seconds@ the Huntridge Theatre

Sick Of It All @ the Huntridge Theatre

Sick Of It All, Unwritten Law, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Dance Hall Crashers, Blink (182), Incubus @ the Huntridge

Faded Grey: A Quiet Time Of Desperation

Faded Grey were awesome, they had that familiar hard core sound I loved but with enough of a difference in sound to make them stand on their own... It bums me out to think that I missed many Faded Grey gigs because I was a new father working two jobs to get my family off the ground, but I still managed to catch them on nights my mom and dad were down to babysit & the few times I caught them they were amazing as fuck... I have to say for all of my parents faults they have been amazing grandparent and insisted that I leave the kids at their house for the night, so we could have some alone time... if it wasn't for them I am not sure I would have caught any punk or hard core action at the time... Anyway I found this sticker in a copy of A Quiet Time of Desperation, which you already know is a great record!

here is a live set of their reunion @ Nate  FEST

here is a positive review for them on Punknews.org

Suicidal Tendencies @ the House of Blues

Suicidal Tendencies @ the House of Blues I was drunk at Frankie's Tiki Room and someone handed me a ticket for this show, I remember this show being so much fun I broke my nose! I don't remember who opened this show but I vaguely remember one of the bands being awesome, if you know let me know!

Star Fucking Hipsters @ the Box Office

Star Fucking Hipsters, Molotov Compromise, Murder Majesty, the Hard Pipe Hitters @ the Box Office

Gwar @ Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip as opposed to the other Hard Rock Cafe on Paradise

Gwar, Municipal Waste, Ghoul, Legacy of Disorder @ the Hard Rock Cafe... I thought Ghoul and Municipal Waste were fucking awesome, I hate to admit but Gwar really did nothing for me... I don't really remember Legacy of Disorder, but if memory serves me right they played as I stood in line and since they took their sweet time getting people in I never caught them...

Dwarves @ the Showcase Theatre

this show was fucking amazing, the Dwarves, Final Conflict, F.Y.P, Bobsled, & DOS @ the Showcase Theatre Corona, CA

Slayer @ the Joint

I have to admit I was drunk as fuck at this show & showed up just in time to miss every band but Slayer, no worries for the most part I think metal sucks... I have to admit I thought the best part of this show was the people yelling random shit like, "Satan", "fuck you", and of course the obligatory, "!!!SLAYER!!!" It's not that Slayer was bad, it's just that the Joint just seems to lack any life... every concert I have ever caught here has just seemed lifeless as fuck, something about the sound, sure it's loud but just not full or something... Hay, I am not a sound engineer! I am not a huge fan of big shows, but I think if a show is gonna be in a douche venue I would prefer for them to be at the House of Blues.

Rancid / NOFX @ the House of Blues

I don't remember much about this show but I think NOFX played like 6 songs and 3 of them were Rancid covers... the worst part of this show was that the guy I went with was a Republican and he got pissed when Fat Mike said something disparaging about George W Bush, how fucking embarrassing... it's bad enough to be seen with a Republican (or a Democrat) but even worse at a Punk Rock Show (?) Not sure, if anything happening at the House of Blues can be considered punk, but I think you know what I am getting at...

the Dickies, Lethal Injection, Area 51 @ the Huntridge Theatre

I'd apologize for not posting anything in a long time, but it's not like you care, so fuck off for trying to make me feel guilty... I wish I could lie and say I was busy, but I wasn't... I haven't even done anything interesting besides getting drunk, listening to records, and reading books I don't remember reading because I was too drunk... anyway I stumbled across this flyer the other day & thought I'd post it!
